Xinhua News Agency, Shanghai, May 16 (Reporter Li Rong) - On the 16th, the "2025 China-Italy Fashion and Culture Carnival" opened at the Minghua Sugar Warehouse on Yangpu Riverside in Shanghai. As a key annual foreign-related project of Yangpu District, this event creates a Shanghai model for the mutual learning between Chinese and Western civilizations in the new era through the innovative model of "industrial heritage + digital art + people-to-people diplomacy".
The digital art exhibition constitutes a "spectacle of time-space folding": The "Revelation of Star Orbit Archaeology" VR project brought by the Italian team uses satellite mapping technology, allowing the audience to freely shuttle between the ancient ruins of Pompeii and the industrial heritage of Yangpu; The team from Tongji University used fluid dynamics algorithms to bring Renaissance masterpieces back to life in the metaverse space; Two artworks, Golden Dragon and Garden, created by Italian artists made a stunning debut, fully demonstrating respect for Oriental culture and artistic creativity.

As one of the highlights of this carnival, a joint fashion show by Chinese and Italian designers was staged in the industrial space of the Minghua Sugar Warehouse. Over a hundred sets of Italian high couture costumes were airlifted to Shanghai, as if moving the runway of Milan Fashion Week to the banks of the Huangpu River. Chinese design forces responded stunningly with a grand embroidery show featuring the intangible cultural heritage "Legends of Mountains and Seas". Italian brands will connect with local enterprises to promote two-way flow in economic, trade and cultural exchanges between China and Italy; At the "China-EU Youth Roundtable", representatives of overseas Chinese youth will conduct discussions on "the dissemination of Chinese stories in the digital age", exploring new paths for cultural dialogue from an international perspective.
Relying on the "people-to-people diplomacy reception room" built by the carnival, representatives of the Italian overseas Chinese community, in their capacity as "district international communication ambassadors", are telling the story of the revival of Yangpu Riverside's industrial heritage to the world through overseas social platforms. The transformation and evolution of this century-old building have become a urban window for the world to understand China. An "urban reception room" carrying the mutual learning between Chinese and Italian civilizations has taken shape, which is not only a stage for cultural dialogue but also a new landmark showcasing Yangpu's innovative vitality.
